I,m new to the compact tractor phenomenon and the postings on this board have helped me tremendously to increase my knowledge. I still have a couple of questions regarding safe operation of a compact, implement pricing etc. I read a posting earlier concering the safe operation of a tractor travelling parallel to an incline 15 to 20 degrees max. What are the suggested limits when mowing perpendicular to the slope? Also I quoted a couple of different brands blue and green. Blue- TC29D SS MFWD with 60 inch belly mower, $17200. Green- 4300 MFWD hydro R4 folding rops (with new front axle design) $16925 including 60 mid mower, Landpride 2555 tiller- $2000, Landpride rear blade 72 inch 35 series $1000. Are these competitive prices? Also how effective will this tractor be by using the rear blade to push snow on a paved drive?

Rick, there are supposedly some "standards" that call for the ability to traverse 20 degree slopes, side to side, and 30 degree slopes, forward and backward. Just remember that these are general guidelines and you need to take into consideration many other facts, such as traction, small objects like rocks that you may run over with the high side wheels, holes on the low side, just to name a couple. You might want to try the link below, and if you have questions then, call "Rick" at R&B Mfg. He'll be glad to provide a lot of answers. I have one of his tiltmeters on my tractor. As for the prices you asked about; I can't help you there. I have other brands. ....

Rick, I have a JD4300 w/hydro, MFWD, Front End Loader, canopy, R4s, and foldable ROPS. I had to extrapolate the price of the tractor out of the sale price but the best I can figure I paid about $15,900 for the tractor by itself. With a mower, the JD price sounds in the ballpark. I can't speak to the price of the NH. ....

Just found this board today after ordering a 4300 this morning. I shopped around quite a bit. Most dealers here in Wisconsin had little in stock and claimed compact tractors are hot sellers right now.
I wanted a 4300 with a hydro, 4wd, R4 tires, dual Scv, mid pto, rear worklight, folding rops, 420 loader w/61" HD bucket & level indicator and balst box. The dealer that had had one in stock quoted me $19100 for the package.
I ended up ordering one from a dealer who will try to get one from the factory which will require a 4 to 6 week wait, however. I got the above setup for $18000 even. I told him the higher priced dealer had one in stock and he's going to call the other dealer to see if they can arrange a "dealer trade".
I collected 4 quotes. Generally the tractor equipped above ranged from $15400 to $16100 and the 420 loader ran $2600 to $2900. ....

I'm happy to have found this board. I'm in the process of researching a tractor for snow plowing, landscaping, stumping, etc and am leaning towards JD.
I'm also looking at the 4300 but here in New Hampshire, I was quoted at $20,600 for the 4300 HST/FWD, 430 Loader, ROPS, R1 tires with salt water, and balast box. Seems a little steep to me compared to what others have for quotes (4400s in that configuration at that price.) I also have a couple of other questions. What should I be looking for other than the front axle? I'm guessing that the best thing would be to make sure I get a new machine straight from the factory? I out of my league but my research on this board is helping. TIA... ....

Your price appears to be a little high even if that includes sales tax. I paid $19,600 for a JD 4300 w/430 loader, foldable ROPS, R4 tires, canopy, 5' brush hog, including 5.5% sales tax in March. THere may have been a price increase since then. The tractor already had the new axle and I haven't found any other problems though JD did issue a safety latch for the loader that pins on the front of the frame and prevents the loader from coming off accidently. I think ther were only certain serial numbers impacted by the loader problem, though. You might price a hydraulic top link. I had one installed after I bought the tractor and highly recommend it as a time and work saver. I have been amazed at the amount of work the tractor can do and I use it for about what you described. Thanks Eddie. NH has no sales tax so I guess the price is quite high. Sorry for the newbie question but what is a hyrdaulic top link? Also, is a mid-mount PTO used for anything but underbelly mowers? Would front attachments like a snowblower use the mid-mount PTO? Was the brushhog you got in your deal a JD or something else? I might be going to talk to my dealer again today for some price adjustments... Thanks... ....

THe Hydraulic top link is a replacement for the top link on your 3pth. Most tractors come with a top link that you have to get off and turn to lengthen or shorten it. I use mine for box blade work mostly. TO have an "automatic" hydraulic top link means I can change the angle of my blade by moving a lever rather than getting off the tractor and turning the bar. I think the mower is the only thing that works off the middle PTO but I don't know for sure. Maybe somebody else can answer that question for you. ....

Generally front mounted augar type snowblowers are powered by the mid PTO. JD offeres a 47 and 59 inch snowblower of this type. ....
